Holistic Massage

Holistic massage takes a whole body, client centred approach. A consultation process allows the practitioner to meet the client where they are in terms of  their needs and requirements, allowing the massage to unfold in an intuitive, attentive and supportive way. It usually combines a mixture of techniques such as; rocking, breathwork, myofascial release, fluid effleurage, holds, joint mobilisations, percussion and deep tissue work. The session is tailored to what you need on that particular day. Holistic massage is a great way to release tensions, relax and improve flow in the muscular system and can be used to ease and improve a wide variety of conditions.

Bodywork

Bodywork focuses on moving from bone, freeing the joints and loosening the musculature and fascia, promoting fluidity and ease in your movement. During bodywork you are an active participant, shifting from being moved by the facilitator and then gently moving yourself to find easeful, effortless motion in your body, reconnecting you to your sensory body. Therefore it is often facilitated on the floor to enable this exchange. When necessary it can also be utilised on a massage table or chair. Skilful touch is used to teach you to feel, relax and move with greater ease and awareness. Loose clothing is suggested for this work to enable comfort and ease of motion. It is particularly good for helping with anxiety and finding emotional stability, but equally useful to ease and improve a wide variety of other issues.

Somatic Movement Practice

Somatic movement practice focuses on the moving body. One of the essential aspects of maintaining good health is to move well. Somatic movement focuses on moving with conscious attention, attending to how we live and move in our own bodies. The session centres on inviting ease and flow into our movement and exploring a fuller range of motion. When we move consciously we can shift the body into a parasympathetic state, meaning it moves into rest and repair mode. Here we can let go of tensions, both physically and emotionally, and assist the body’s natural ability to self-regulate. As we oil the joints through gentle movement, we promote a good flow of fluids and energy, which is at the heart of good health and wellbeing.  This practice is excellent for overall health and can help with many conditions. It is particularly useful for postural issues and sensory motor amnesia.

Consultation:

During your first visit you will be asked to fill in a consultation form to provide essential information prior to your appointment. This will be followed at the beginning of your first session by a short discussion to determine a plan of action. If you are unfamiliar with some of the methods I use, these can be clarified during this time. We can then discuss what kind of session you would prefer and/or what would be most helpful for your needs at any one particular time.
